We had angry words

We had a spat

     and said hurtful words we didn’t mean.

 How silly it all seems

      at the light of a new day.

 What happened to “for better or worse?”

 Have we grown too intolerant of the other?

 We fool ourselves to believe we fully

   know the other –

        Our patience has waned.

 I love you,

           still –

 I shall love you for all eternity

      and I know you love me too.

 So, I promise

   and I hope you do too

to be a bit more as we were

      when all that mattered was our love and

        the nearness of each other.

I promise to do my best to be less judgmental.

To be less quick with my tongue and less

    short with my wit.

 Forgive me for saying that which I wish

  I hadn’t…

      And I shall forgive you too.

 I love you,

           still –

 I shall love you for all eternity
